Anna is a performer, movement director, choreographer and teacher. My work occupies a distinct position in the fields of dance and theatre, drawing in and blending ideas from my movement heritage and the cultural landscape. I aim to create work that connects us to ourselves, community and environment. In creative teams and teaching I aim to empower and free performers through movement and embodiment.
I am the founder of Anna Alvarez Compañia, a dance theatre company that explores storytelling through movement, mixing ideas from dance, theatre, music and illustration through the lens of the Latinx diaspora
I am the co-founder of Company Tupi alongside Syed Hamza Ali, a company of Movement Directors, an inter-disciplinary company working across theatre, animation, sport and dance.

My movement roots stem from a variety of sources and places. I trained in ballet and Tango from a young age and went on to study contemporary dance at the Facultade de Dança Angel Vianna in Rio de Janeiro. My movement heritage includes; Samba, Capoeira, Rumba, Flamenco and Corde Lisse. I have practiced yoga for over twelve years and more recently began training in Feldenkrais. I honor all my movement teachers and maestros.
